Overview
AHRQ Weekly Mortality and Patient Safety indicator Multidisciplinary Conference is a two-hour weekly conference focusing on case-by-case review of Mortality and other CMS related patient safety events at UF Shands Hospital. Discussion involves in depth chart reviews, analysis of clinical documentation, imaging, microbiological and other data to determine whether evens were unanticipated and potentially preventable and create strategies to improve care systems. Participants are nurses, physicians, pharmacist, quality analysts, hospital administrators, our chief epidemiologist, and chief quality officer and this occurs in person and via teleconference. The program has no commercial support. All presenters are Shands or UF Health faculty /staff

Specialties - Acute Care Surgery, Critical Care Medicine (PICU), Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Palliative Care, Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Pediatrics, Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine, Surgery, Vascular Surgery

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (2.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance Certificate (2.00 hours)

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Analyze UF Health Shands Hospital's patient safety indicator performance in relation to specific cases.
  2. Interpret data trends illustrating UF Health Shands Hospitals mortality and patient safety indicators performance benchmarked to national trends.
  3. Appraise systems in place to protect patients from unexpected mortality events; Recommend changes needed in protocols, documentation, or other practice-based interventions to prevent complications, unexpected mortality or appropriate use of palliative care resources among hospitalized patients; Propose new resources or programs needed to improve performance in mortality and patient safety domains to leadership.
