Pediatric Outreach Program: Tiny Patients, Big Challenges: Managing Pediatric Burns and Trauma

Via email, a planning committee member and Dr. Louis St. Petery of the Tallahassee Pediatric Foundation (TPF)discussed the need for community pediatricians to be involved in learning more about the field of identifying and managing burns and trauma in pediatric patients, and how to manage these conditions at the practice level. Due to the specialized nature of this field, it would be prudent to have an expert in the field provide education to the group. Since the speaker is an expert in this field and specializes in pediatric care, it was determined that this program would be valuable.


AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance Certificate (1.00 hours)

1. Define various types of burns
2. Identify pediatric non-accidental burns (PNAB)
3. Determine how to calculate Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) and Trauma Alert Criteria
