Palliative Care - Assessing and Managing Symptoms in Serious Illness

This course on palliative care aims to equip clinicians with the necessary tools to enhance patient-centered care through better symptom management, acknowledging the critical role of safe opioid prescribing due to the commonality of pain in serious illnesses. It also addresses the risks associated with polypharmacy, given the complex medication regimens often required by these patients. As the population ages and medical advancements prolong life, the demand for palliative care experts surpasses the supply, underscoring the importance of developing primary palliative skills among all clinicians. These foundational skills, including basic symptom management for serious illnesses, are crucial for broadening the reach of palliative care and ensuring that a growing number of patients with serious illnesses receive the comprehensive support they need.
