Family Updates for Patients In-Custody

A Educational event aimed at meeting the needs of faculty, housestaff, and non-physicians. Serves as the major source of up-to-date information regarding medicine outside the faculty's area of expertise. Also, the primary source for medical knowledge of a broad interest for the internist. It is the major educational activity accruing CME hours both of a general nature as well as state-mandated CME. Topics consist of information in medical science, therapeutic advances and current cases in the hospital.


AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.00 hours), ABS CC (1.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance Certificate (1.00 hours)

1. Explain the rights of patients in custody that have the capacity to complete Advance Directives as well as make their own decisions about medical care
2. Clarify the right of the incapacitated patient in custody to have the appropriate familial Proxy or designated HCS contacted for consents and decisions about care (within the parameters of the security protocol)
3. Discuss the potential vulnerability of the incapacitated patient in custody within the hospital system
4. Set forth the process to follow for communicating with family when the patient is in custody

The University of Florida College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
