Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Education Retreat

This faculty retreat is an interactive professional development program designed to strengthen excellence in medical education across the department. Through expert-led presentations, facilitated discussions, skills-based workshops, panel discussions, and networking activities, participants will explore current trends in medical education, effective teaching strategies, faculty development and promotion pathways, educational scholarship opportunities, and the department's educational vision and goals for the coming academic year.


AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (5.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance Certificate (5.00 hours)

1. Identify exemplary teaching skills of peers. Recognize the opportunities that exist at the COM level for faculty development in teaching and medical education research.
2. Describe the department's educational vision and strategic priorities for the upcoming academic year. Integrate departmental expectations into their teaching, mentorship, and educational activities across undergraduate and graduate medical education. Recognize the role of faculty engagement in advancing educational excellence, learner success, and the department's academic mission.
3. Describe recent changes to EM residency program requirements. Summarize the similarities and differences between clinical coaching and feedback. Identify opportunities to train residents for the ABEM Certifying Exam. Recognize emerging trends in medical education.
4. Compare the P-cubed (narrative x medium x delivery) method to the usual approach to traditional presentation design. Construct narratives that highlight key learning objectives of a presentation. Present using mediums and delivery that synergize with your desired narrative.
5. Describe the principles of academic advancement, including promotion pathways and the educational activities valued by the institution. Develop a personalized strategy for documenting educational contributions and building an academic portfolio.
6. Identify current departmental projects that align with your scholarly interests. Recognize opportunities to collaborate on scholarly projects with peers.

The University of Florida College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
