Overview
This monthly course will be multidisciplinary in nature. It will incorporate Urologic Oncologist and General Urologist, specializing in biopsy techniques of the prostate as well as focal therapy treatments of the prostate, including irreversible electroporation, high intensity focused ultrasound and cryotherapy. Furthermore, we will incorporate radiation oncologists, dedicated GU pathologists and GU radiologist with expertise in MRI imaging. This course will begin with a review of patients being considered for one of these three focal therapy modalities due to a history of primary or salvage/recurrent prostate cancer. We will review patient history, patient imaging (MRI, PET scan, CT scan etc.) with an in depth focus of the intralesional findings. This radiologic re-review will be followed by pathological re-review and interpretation of cancer presence on biopsy and location. Co-registration of imaging and pathology will be elucidated. A decision on focal therapy opportunity and if so, which modality will be decided upon. If not a focal therapy candidate, radical therapy options versus active surveillance will be decided upon. As focal therapy is increasing in practice, a well-organized and systematic approach to patient selection will be important for education and patient outcomes
